'Dogs drop series to Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State softball team dropped the series to New Mexico after falling in game two 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Lobo Stadium.

The Bulldogs (32-18, 12-9 MW) had won five straight Mountain West series coming into the week.

Sophomore Kennedy Bunker led the team at the plate, tying her season-high with three hits. Bunker has had 10 games this season with multiple hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Kealani Nitta opened the game with a bunt single to third base, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Sophia Medellin plated the first run of the game with an RBI-ground out.

New Mexico got its offense going in the bottom of the fourth inning. Back-to-back singles and a miscue on a fielder's choice would load the bases for the Lobos with one out. The next batter hit a two-RBI single to right center, giving New Mexico the lead. The Lobos blasted their second RBI single and capitalized on a throwing error to bring in two more runs, taking a 4-1 lead.

In the final three innings, despite recording four hits with six base runners, the Bulldogs struggled to convert those opportunities into runs, falling 4-1 in the contest.

UP NEXT
