Ah! The Phoenix Force Has Unleashed The Geek Freak of the Week!

Hello again fellow geeks, nerds, and dorks! You made it to the weekend, go ahead, give yourself a pat on the back. This weekend marks the end of the 20th Century Fox run of its Marvel movies. Dark Phoenix is out in theaters (for better or worse).

We also learned some key things...Swamp Thing from the DCuniverse is canceled, we have a tease for the next Wonder Woman film in 2020 AND someone from Avengers is taking a break. Let's just dive right into it all with the Geek Freak of the Week!

The Phoenix Fizzles

*hits head against wall* why....WHY can't they get this story arc right for movies? WHY?! Just take the comic panels and turn it into a film. Stop trying to "fix it" by creating a new story that incorporates the Phoenix Saga. I actually have a better idea...screw making a movie. Just release the animated version we saw in the 90's and release that one in theaters. That version will make your money back in one weekend, two tops!

Honestly, I wished this movie was getting better reviews and people were more excited for it because it's the end of the series that we have all loved for 20 years and I hate the fact that it's ending on such a low note. I love the X-Men, they are my favorite Marvel property and it's going to be a while before we get another X-Men film. Let's hope when Marvel and Disney adapt this story again (you know they will) it's better.

Then again...Venom received crappy reviews, and yet fans enjoyed it. Plus it did well at the box office.

Dark Phoenix is out in theaters now...I'm going to watch the 90's version.

A Warner-Less Comic Con

Looks like 2019 comic con will be lite this year as Warner Brothers will be skipping its Hall H appearance. This is a big deal. Usually Warner Brothers owns Comic-Con by announcing upcoming movies and releases trailers for the ones that are coming in the months ahead. However, I can see why they will skip this time around. They don't really have anything to say. As far as movies go Wonder Woman 1984 comes out in June 2020 and they are keeping things under wraps for that one since they are still trying to figure out where it stands in the whole DCEU. A Shazam sequel is in the works...but a script isn't evened typed up yet. And the next Fantastic Beasts doesn't arrive until 2021. If they were going to take a break...this is the year.

This isn't all of Warner Brothers that's sitting out. The CW shows (which is half owned and produced by WB) will make a pit stop. They have a lot to talk about with the new Batwoman series premiering this fall AND the big crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. At least we get that....

Wonder Woman in Technicolor!

Whoa! Check out Gal Gadot in her NEW Wonder Woman armor. In the comics, sometimes Dianna wears armor into battle, its rare, but since she is battling her arch nemesis, Cheetah (played by Kristen Wiig) in the next film she might need it!

Wonder Woman 1984 is out on June 5th, 2020. Less then a year to go!

We Are On A Break!

After Men in Black: International you probably won't be seeing Chris Hemsworth for a while. The actor has decided he wants to take some time off from acting, about a year to be exact, and head back home to Australia. He can afford to do this, he made $15 million for Avengers and probably another boat load of cash for MIB. He'll be fine....Let's hope he doesn't embrace his Fat Thor persona while taking time off.

But if you're wondering if he will be in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 he said he is open to doing that!

Returning To The Swamp....

...and never to be heard from again. Wow, that lasted shorter than my cup of coffee! The DCuniverse series Swamp Thing is done after one season. Why? Looks like it's a corporate call. AT&T bought Time Warner, which controls WarnerMedia, which in turn owns Warner Brothers and they hold all the DC Entertainment and DC Comics properties. So why cancel it just because of a new parent company?

According to Deadline, the new overlords are evaluating everything and apparently, no one liked Swamp Thing so it's getting the boot. This kind of concerns me. Here's why: it was announced not so long ago that Warner Media was looking into its own streaming service, much like Disney Plus. If that becomes a reality AT&T won't want TWO streaming services competing with each other. Now, they could integrate DCuniverse content into the new Warner Media streaming service by having it as an add-on, but that just complicates things. Have it all in one place, under one name. I would catch up on Titans, Doom Patrol, and Young Justice:Outsiders...FAST!

PS....does this sound familiar? It sounds similar to how Disney and Netflix handled Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Punisher series. History does repeat itself!

Don't forget...we are always geeking out over at the Geek Freak of the Week: Podcast. Take a listen! Until next week...

I'm Maz, and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
