GIR! Get Yourself Together...The Geek Freak of the Week Is Here!

Humans! Welcome back to another issue of the Geek Freak of the Week. I have marvelous news. Zim is back! All hail our glorious invader. Whose ready to relive this show? The new special Enter the Florpus is now streaming on Netflix. Oh...and Gir has the best idea for pizza!

This week started off very VERY low with nerd news. Truthfully, I was worried that I wouldn't have anything to post. However, the Geek Gods were kind enough to deliver some big stuff as the week dragged on. So without further ado...let's geek the freak out!

Comeback Kenobi

I guess this is another reason to get Disney Plus. It's not a movie...it's a streaming series! After a few rumors, looks like a Kenobi series staring Ewan McGregor is in the works. When it was announced that a Solo and Boba Fett film were being planned it became clear fans wanted a story about Obi Wan living on Tatooine after the events of Revenge of the Sith. He was there for 18 years...he wasn't in his hut the whole time! The timing of this is interesting. We still don't know about Rey's parentage and some have theorized she's a Kenobi. If we learn that is true after the Rise of Skywalker comes out this December then this new series can fill in the blanks.

As far as other plots, this could set up the return of Darth Maul. Hear me out....as we learned in Solo, the former Dark Lord of the Sith is still kicking around (with robot legs) and runs the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn. Since Tatooine is a haven for smugglers and criminals, it be a great tie in and would eventually lead to a rematch between the two. I know we saw that in Star Wars: Rebels but I'm sure a live action version would be a fan pleaser. Plus, the series could be about how Obi-Wan brought down or weakened the crime organization. Hmm? What do you think? Great tie in for Jabba and the Hutt as well. I like this idea...no one steal it!

I'm sure more information regarding a Kenobi series will most likely be said at the D23 Expo (Disney's version of Comic-Con) next week in Anaheim, California.

No More New Mutants?

Here we go. More BAD news for New Mutants. It's common knowledge at this point that Dark Phoenix was a flop and ever since Disney took the keys to drive 20th Century Fox they are looking over everything with a fine comb to see what is left of the mutant-verse for future releases. From what the internet and twitter has been saying, New Mutants is something Disney isn't a fan. Is it because of the performance of the latest X-Men film? Maybe it had to do with the genre New Mutants was going towards. Instead of being a traditional superhero or comic book film they were creating a horror-movie feel. Or maybe...this is Disney's plan to hype it up so when it does get released its a hit just based on audience numbers so it can make some money back. Crazier things have happened, right?

Also circulating is what to do with Deadpool. Wait...WHAT?! NOT DEADPOOL! Right now the talk is this...keep it at an R-rating or try to go PG-13 for the guy. Here's a thought, if it not broken, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT!

Scream For The Dark Crystal

Before we start on this...Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei in Game of Thrones and also is going to star in this new series, posted this video on her Instagram to generate buzz for the new Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance trailer. What the hell is this thing and why am I laughing so hard when I watch it?

Is it hungry? Did someone wake it up? How do I get one! Anyways....if you watched IGN's comic-con live feed, you saw this all over the place. Coming to Netflix in two weeks is the prequel to movie that, even though had Jim Henson's name on it and used Muppet's, was NOT a movie for kids. Since becoming a cult classic, our favorite streaming service is creating ten episodes and telling us a story set before the events of the first film. That's right fellow nerds, we are getting a prequel. Looks like a mix of Muppet's and CGI characters. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance arrives on Netflix August, 30th

keeping with the resistance theme....

The Resistance Is Over

This show didn't last long. Disney released the new trailer for Star Wars: Resistance and it was revealed that its upcoming season two would be its last. When the show was announced and we were given a quick trailer to see what it was all about a year ago, the internet had many thoughts about it. Mainly, the design. Like its sister series, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, this series is CGI but in this series they added some cell-shading which gives it an anime-style look. For more on that...here's what Nerdist had to say about it a year ago.

Again, not a bad thing to change things up, but I'm going with this thought process. Fans were upset that Star Wars:Rebels was ending and it had a steady following. Plus, that series took place after Revenge of the Sith so we saw the return of Darth Maul, Ahsoka, Yoda, Obi-Wan, and of course, Darth Vader. It drew in fans from both Clone Wars and the original movies. You can also say its also being pulled because Disney+ is on the horizon they want all Star Wars content on their streaming service. In other words, doesn't matter the scenario, the resistance never had a chance.

The final season will air this October on Disney Channel.

Don't forget to check out the ever growing and popular Geek Freak of the Week Podcast. With Batman:Hush arriving on Blu-Ray and digital this past week I decided to re-post what I had said about the DC Animated Movie Universe. Give it a listen because I truly think these movies could be on the big screen and replace the DCEU. In the mean time, I have some great guests coming up that I am excited to sit down with. Expect a new episode by Tuesday!

Until next time. I'm Maz, and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
