A California police officer in pursuit of a fleeing suspect was forced to call off the chase when his Tesla patrol car's battery ran out of power. The incident occurred in Fremont after an officer identified a car's license plate number as being connected to a crime that had been committed in Santa Clara, police say. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect gunned it and led the officer on a high-speed chase, a spokeswoman says. In a recording of the officer's conversation with a dispatcher, he can be heard saying, "Just slowed down to six miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec." Moments later, his lifeless car came to a stop -- allowing the suspect to make good his escape. Each of the Fremont Police Department's Teslas are supposed to be charged at the end of every shift, rep Geneva Bosques admits.
