By Royal Proclamation, The Geek Freak of the Week Is Here!

They are calling the Prince Harry and Meghan split "Megix". HA! I kind of like that. If you're wondering why this week has their news as the cover, a modern Game of Thrones is taking place right before our eyes! I think I know what's happening. Let me explain.

Harry is sixth in line to the throne, he was fourth but thanks to the birth of William and Kate's children, he got pushed down the line. He wants to be King, but he can't in England...so he has ANOTHER plan. The King of Canada! Yes, you read that correctly. OK, here's how.

They said they will be spending their time in North America. Harry has some claim to be king of that country. Canada is part of the British Commonwealth and the royal family represent the country. Odd, right? This goes back to the British Empire days. So yes, Canada is an independent nation but they recognizes Queen Elizabeth II as their Head of State. It's rumored, along in Australia and Jamaica, that once the Queen passes away, those three nations will leave the Commonwealth. Until that happens, Harry has enough time to play politics so when/if they do leave the Commonwealth alliance, Canada will still want a monarch because it brings in a lot of tourist money. And since Harry married an American, tourists will now go to Canada to see their sites instead of going to England as much. Thus, Canada having no choice but to proclaim Harry the King of Canada or...The King of the North!

See! Game of Thrones is real! This is just the less-bloody version.

Still with me? Good. It's not that far-fetched. We live in a crazy world and anything can happen. It's time to geek out because some new movies that have been in development hell are now coming out and there's a lot of casting news to chat about. Oh, and a big change for Doctor Strange. So, without further ado, here is the latest Geek Freak of the Week!

The New Mutants Are Here!

Well, that only took two-ish years. In fact, many thought this movie was beyond the development hell stages. This past Monday, that all changed with the first official trailer for The New Mutants. It's about freaking time! April 3rd is when this movie is due to come to theaters. After all this time, will you go see it?

This Is Strange

Director Scott Derrickson and Marvel Studios have split up. "Creative Differences" is the reason, according to the article from IGN. If you're thinking "no big deal" it might be just the opposite. Scott Derrickson has directed films in the horror genre, before taking on first Doctor Strange movie he directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister and it was reported that the 2021 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is said to have a horror feel to it. In theory, Marvel had the perfect director to take on the next movie and that type of genre for Marvel. So, what the hell happened? Is Wandavision being moved up to blame here? If anything, Scott Derrickson is staying on as Executive Producer of the movie, so at least he will still have some say in it.

Bale Goes To Marvel

Is another actor who played Batman crossing over to Marvel? Of course, the first was Michael Keaton for Spider-Man Homecoming. Looks like the answer is yes! Christian Bale is in talks to appear in the fourth film of our favorite Norse God, Thor: Love & Thunder. Maybe Bale is going to play Thor's new personal trainer so Fat-Thor (or Bro Thor as Marvel states) can get in shape to see his ex-girlfriend Jane again.

Penguin Is Here!

Jonah Hill out & Collin Farrell in as the "Gentlemen of Crime" in the next Batman film. The last time we saw Batman take on The Penguin was back in 1992 with Tim Burton's Batman Returns. By the time this new movie comes out, it'll 29 years so it's time for this character to return to the big screen. Now that I think about it...this whole movie just seems like a redo of Batman Returns because of Catwoman and the Penguin returning.

More Arrowverse!

Accept for Arrow, of course. Seriously, are they going to rename this or are we forever going to call it the "arrowverse". Still sounds better than the CW-verse. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, the CW has renewed all of their superhero shows for another season. This brings The Flash to season 7, both Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow tie at getting a season 6, Batwoman will be coming back for a second season, and Black Lightning is getting a season 4. I guess this means they all survive and the win against the Anti-Monitor in the upcoming conclusion of Crisis on Infinite Earths that returns for it's two-hour finale on Tuesday, January 14th at 8pm on the CW.

Harley Team...GO!

There were talks of a new trailer since December but on Thursday we got a nice surprise with the final trailer for Birds of Prey (and that long Harley Quinn title) being dropped into our lives.

The trailer mostly focuses on Harley Quinn but we get to see some personality coming out in Huntress (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Everyone else, not so much. Guess we have to wait for the film to come out in a few weeks. Birds of Prey flies into theaters February 7th.

So, that was a lot. 2020 is going to be a packed year my geek gut tells me.
