Hello fellow geeks, dorks, and nerds. If you're confused by the picture OF $100 bills as the cover for this issue there is a very good reason. This is issue 100 of the Geek Freak of the Week! I remember when I started this back in my college days. A simple idea to highlight a few of the best nerd news that the geek work had to offer. It's been a labor of love and I hope to continue for another 100 issues. With that said...here we go, let's geek out because this week had some awesome stuff!
A Super Legendary Crossover
Wait...the Winchester brothers are living in the Arrowverse? Sorry fan boys and girls, but it looks like the two shows don't exist in the same timeline.
In this past Tuesdays episode of Legends of Tomorrow we see two of our time traveling heroes, Sara and Charlie, walking around for as mission and discover they are close to a taping of a popular TV series. And yes, that is Supernatual. Sara gets giddy because she's a huge fan (and the brothers are her "hall pass").
Ever since Legends of Tomorrow brought on John Constantine and moved into the supernatural and magic realm, fans of both shows have been asking for a crossover between the two CW series. It is a shame there was no cameo in Crisis on Infinite Earths but this is close enough. Here are some of the scenes incase you missed it.
so that was the first big surprise of the week. Then this happened....
Calling the Carnage
Remember this post-credit scene from Venom?
It's now official. The next Venom film will be appropriately titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The movie release date has also changed. At first, Sony had no intention of moving the next film which was slated to come out in theaters this October. On Tuesday, it was announced the movie was indeed moving to a new date but has also received a title! Venom: Let There Be Carnage will come out in June of 2021.
Movies on the Move
** updated 4/24/20 at 11:59pm **
The COVID-19 pandemic has yet again moved some of the most anticipated movies to new release dates. This time it's for the DC movies. Here's the line up as of now:
- Wonder Woman 1984 - August 14, 2020
- The Suicide Squad - Aug 6, 2021
- The Batman - October 1, 2021
- The Flash - June 3, 2022
- Shazam 2 - November 4, 2022
- Aquaman 2 - December 18, 2022
Okay, there is some good, bad, and exciting feelings.
The good: Wonder Woman is still set for this summer and the Flash movie is still on DC and Warner Brothers agenda. Also, a Batman movie coming out in October aka the month of Halloween? That's fitting and PERFECT.
The bad: Shazam 2. Its original release date was April 1, 2022. For that movies tone it was a perfect release date. The pandemic has halted production on all movies so this comes at no surprise.
Stay with the Geek Freak of the Week for all future changes.
Movies on the Move Part 2
Of course, the moment I post the Geek Freak and set out for the evening more news breaks. Along with Warner Brothers and DC moving their slew of movies into 2021 and 2022, Marvel has announced that they will also being moving some of their movies around. Once again, Thor: Love and Thunder along with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have changed release dates. The movies dates out them very VERY close together, just over one month apart. 2021 and 2022 are going to be very expensive years.
Movies on the Move Part 3
Oh wait...there's more! Sony Studios slew of Spider-Man movies, Into the Spider-Verse 2 will now swing into theaters in October of 2022 and the third movie in the Spider-Man Home series are now set for November of 2021. Seriously, 2020 has ruined everything!
May The 4th Bring New Content
Star Wars Day is right around the corner and to celebrate Disney+ has announced a special docuseries from the creators, directors, writers, actors, and anyone else who wants to jump in to chat about The Mandalorian. Why? It is the way, that's why!
Harley Quinn Goes To SYFY
The title of this section says it all. The popular DC-Universe series about the one and only Harley Quinn will be coming to SYFY this May. The series itself is not moving from streaming to cable. The series will still be on the streaming service with new episodes but if you felt shelling out another $7.99 a month for another streaming service was to much then having the series come to SYFY is a win. However, the show does have a lot of profanity so expect a lot of bleeps and edits.
The Avatar Arrives
Stuck in quarantine? This will help. Return to the world of earth, fire, winter, and water bending with all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender! The critically acclaimed animated show will arrive (via flying bison) on Netflix May 15th.
