Patriots offensive tackle Justin Herron was one of two people honored in Tempe, Arizona today for their heroic actions on Saturday.
Both Herron and Phoenix native Murray Rogers received the Outstanding Service Award from city police after the two reportedly stopping a sexual assault at a local park over the weekend.
The Tempe Police Department says a 30 year old man was seen at local Kiwanis Park pushing a 71 year old woman to the ground and "Attempting to remove the woman's pants." That's when Herron and Murray stepped in to stop the assaulter.
The 25 year old lineman stands at 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds.
At today's press conference, Herron recalled the incident. Herron told 12 News Phoenix, "At that moment, I was in shock. I wish I could tell you what I was thinking, but I could just tell someone needed help. All I could do was rush myself over there to make sure I could help the victim and I could comfort her and be the best person I can be."
Herron enters his second year in the NFL on the Patriots roster after being drafted by the team in the sixth round in the 2020 draft. Herron had to step in to the starting lineup 6 times and made appearances in another 6.
