BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Red Sox have won 104 games, with nine to go. Boston's franchise record is 105, set by Tris Speaker and Smoky Joe Wood's 1912 champs. The Sox will start the playoffs two weeks from tonight, inevitably with the best record in baseball. The magic number's two on the Astros.

Did Brock Holt expect this group to be so good?

"I don't know, I don't think when you start a season, you anticipate how many wins you're gonna get or anything like that," Holt said. "I think we knew we were gonna be good and we expected to win a lot of games, so it's been a lot of fun winning as much as we have, and being as consistent as we have, and a majority of our guys staying healthy. It's been a lot of fun."

Mookie Betts--Sox won 93 games last year. How's this been different?

"It's been different in a positive way," Betts said. "We've had so many moments this year as a team. Everybody's contributed, it hasn't been just one guy. You just see so many moments like that, and that's how we won 100 games."

Sox will likely face the Yankees or Athletics in the division series.

Fun fact about how tough the East's been: Rays are third--18-and-a-half games back. They won't make the playoffs, but their 85 wins would lead AL Central, and NL East and West.
