Miami Beach, FL - A fire in a Miami Beach condominium building was caused by a lithium-ion battery from an electric scooter that was charging.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning at the Imperial House condominium building in Miami Beach, prompting the evacuation of residents.

The blaze was caused by an electric scooter battery that had been plugged in to charge.

The Miami Beach Fire Department responded promptly to the incident, containing the fire and ensuring the safety of all residents.

The owner of the apartment where the fire originated was forced to evacuate but was not injured.

Fire investigators determined that the scooter's lithium-ion battery experienced a thermal runaway, causing a chemical reaction that led to toxic gases and an explosive atmosphere.

This type of fire poses significant risks to firefighters due to the nature of rechargeable batteries.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions when using and charging rechargeable batteries.

Experts recommend monitoring batteries closely, following manufacturer's guidelines, and unplugging batteries if any abnormalities are observed.
