Twelve new laws take effect in Florida today, including Online Protections for Minors. Governor Ron DeSantis says social media platforms are now required to end accounts suspected of belonging to someone under 14 and anyone 14 or 15 can only keep the account with parental consent. The law adds fines and civil liabilities for any social media sites that knowingly violate the law. But no accounts will shut down this week. The state will not be enforcing the law because there are two lawsuits trying to block it based on First Amendment rights and age verification.
