Jason and Mike react to a wild College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup that saw Texas take down Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime. Despite playing for the losing team, Arizona State running back Cameron Skattebo turned heads nationwide as he put up 242 total yards from scrimmage (143 rushing, 99 receiving) with 2 touchdowns. While Skattebo is an undeniably impressive college player, Jason isn't quite convinced his skillset will translate to the next level.
Jason Smith: "I think people are kinda caught up in the moment with Skattebo. He's a phenomenal college football player, but I don't know that he translates to the NFL... He's someone who's undersized and and he's not fast. As an NFL running back, you can [get away with a lack of] speed if you're also really big. You can [get away with a lack of] size if you're also really fast. But you can't be undersized and slow... Skattebo is someone who's gonna get swallowed up at the next level. Everybody tackles in the NFL. Those guys have families to feed... He's a guy who'll be a fan favorite on a team, who plays special teams, who gets a couple of goal line carries, who's a sort of cult hero for the team... but he's not gonna come into the NFL and be a star."
