New York City Councilman and Co-Chair of the NYC Common Sense Caucus, Robert Holden shared his thoughts on the possible pause in Congestion Pricing.
Holden said, the tri-state area citizens will get a kick in the head Sunday as congestion pricing begins, but all is not lost thanks to lawsuits filed in New Jersey and Hempstead. If either of those lawsuits proves successful, the pause could happen within the first two weeks of January. Can you imagine trying to force people to take the subway with crimes happening daily? The MTA failed to do an environmental impact study on the tri-state region. Instead, they had an assessment study which is like a rubber stamp that says let's go ahead and do this without understanding what congestion pricing will do to The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. When Gov. Kathy Hochul paused congestion pricing to help the Democrats win in 2024, that was a despicable act that shows she only cares about taking the right political path.
