Governor Maura Healey is ordering a full inspection of all emergency shelters in Massachusetts.
The order yesterday came in response to last month's arrest of an illegal immigrant at a hotel in Revere being operated as a temporary shelter on gun and drug charges.
Police say Leonardo Andujar Sanchez was living at the Quality Inn at the time of his arrest, with charges including distribution of fentanyl.
He was ordered to remain in custody without bail after a dangerousness hearing last week.
Meantime, Republicans on Beacon Hill have called for immediate changes to the way the shelters are used.
They want to make sure that only Massachusetts residents in need are able to have access to the shelters.
