LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday called upon the Chief Sustainability Office to draft a report identifying projects eligible to be funded under Proposition 4, a voter-approved climate bond.

In November 2024, California voters approved the ballot measure, a $10 billion state bond to fund natural resources and climate resilience projects.

The $10 billion fund will be distributed across projects covering state priorities including coastal area projects, forest and wildlife preservation, land conservation, renewable energy projects, Los Angeles River revitalization, among others.

Tuesday's motion by Supervisor Lindsey Horvath cited a report that noted L.A. County alone will need to invest more than $12.5 billion to combat natural disasters and climate-induced public health threats.

Detailing work already being done by the Chief Sustainability Office, the motion stated, "Proposition 4 provides a critical opportunity to expand and accelerate the work."

"Therefore, the county must take immediate action to ensure its residents receive at least a proportional amount of funding given the risk we face and our enormous population," the motion adds.

The report, which is to be presented back in 90 days, in collaboration with the CEO, Department of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Beaches and Harbors, and Fire Department will also detail the proposition's implementation plan and grant guidelines.
