History has been made in Miami-Dade.
For the first time in about 60 years the county has an elected sheriff, and for the first time ever, that sheriff is a woman.
Rosie Cordero-Stutz is now leading the largest local law enforcement agency in the Southeast United States.
It serves about two-point-eight million residents and has an annual budget of nearly one billion dollars.
She says, especially in the wake of the recent terror attack in New Orleans, her department has to double safety precautions and constantly re-evaluate best practices to save lives.
She adds, in the coming weeks, she'll start visiting communities countywide to listen to residents about how the sheriff's office can better serve them.
