NOTE: A Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall that could lead to some localized flooding issues across the Coastal Bend and portions of the Victoria Crossroads Thursday.
Locations within the Victoria Crossroads may drop to near freezing again tonight into Wednesday morning.
As we head through the rest of the week our attention turns towards Thursday where widespread rain is expected with rainfall amounts ranging from a half an inch across portions of Brush Country to around 2 inches across the northern Coastal Bend. While the exact placement of the heaviest rain is still a bit uncertain at this time, it does appear most likely across the Coastal Bend.
All precipitation is forecast to fall in the form of liquid rain with no winter precipitation expected. With that said, while the precipitation will linger into Thursday night, the return of widespread freezing temperatures is not expected until Friday night/Saturday morning. A few locations near the Victoria Crossroads may come close to freezing late Thursday night, but confidence on reaching freezing temperatures is low (20-30% confidence). Any lingering moisture on roads will have the potential to freeze and could lead to some slick spots on the roads, especially Friday night.

Major Winter Storm Continues To Wreak Havoc In Eastern US: More than 50 million people in the US remained under winter weather alerts late yesterday afternoon. The arctic air mass moving through the country brought freezing temperatures, heavy snow, freezing rain, and road closures to multiple states, with the cold weather continuing today. As of late yesterday, nine fatalities have been attributed to the storm system; two in Missouri, two in Kansas, three in Virginia, one in North Carolina, and one in West Virginia, with all of them related to car crashes on slick roads. Over 2-thousand flights were canceled yesterday due to winter weather, with Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport the hardest hit. Heavy ice blanketed parts of Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana causing power outages. The general advice from officials in the affected states is the same: If you don’t have to travel, stay off the roads.
