Feeling drained after the holiday season? You’re not alone, as a new survey finds that 42% of Americans have a “holiday hangover” this year after all the festivities, celebrating and shopping. As a result, 49% are planning to hibernate during January, by being less active and social, and spending less money.
According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults, more than half feel 2024 “got away from them,” and they’re hoping to avoid that in the year ahead.
- Nearly all (89%) admit they didn’t accomplish everything they set out to do in 2024.
- The most common things left undone include not saving enough money (51%), not being as fit and active as planned (38%), not traveling enough (32%) and not spending thoughtfully enough.
- To right those wrongs, 55% plan to take a “slow living” approach in 2025, and to slow their lifestyles down by a third, on average.
- This includes 44% who are taking part in Dry January and another 44% who are trying a “no buy” challenge this month, only spending on true essentials.
- Respondents who are trying to slow down are also hopeful it will be good for their bank balances.
- More than a third (37%) plan to take a break from social media for all or part of the year and predict it could save them an impressive $5,366, on average.
- Another 29% plan to pause dating for some or all of 2025 and estimate that could save them an average of $3,961.
- Staying away from trying new health trends is something 31% are making an effort to do this year, hoping that could save them $39-hundred.
- Nearly two-thirds (65%) want to improve their money habits and 26% hope to boost their financial literacy in 2025.
- This could definitely help the 26% who admit they don’t know what interest rate they’re getting from their bank, as well as the 59% who don’t know what APR (annual percentage rate) stands for.
