(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert proposes a change to a retirement program with a goal of keeping experienced leadership in public safety roles.
The amendment would alter the "DROP," or Deferred Retirement Option Program to extend the retirement option for the Omaha Police and Fire Chiefs.
The program began in 2010 to retain experienced police officers and firefighters, who are eligible to retire.
The Mayor's proposal allows only the Chiefs to remain in the "DROP" program an additional three to five years.
The change requires City Council approval.
