How it happened
Fresno State opened the meet with a new Aquatic Center record in the 400 medley relay. Julia Matney, Aliz Kalmar, Ryley Clark and Jenna Pulkkinen posted a time of 3:41.69 to break a six-year-old record previously held by Cal in 2019-20 (3:42.
44). Previous holders, Cal had two Olympians on the relay team (Abby Weitzeil and Isabella Ivey). Matney and Kalmar hold a program record in the same event, while Clark and Pullkinen are first time relay record holders.
Bulldogs continued with the meet, swimming a few non-traditional events such as 100-yards with a kick board, 100-yard swim with fins and 50's of each stroke. Matney had another record in her to break with the 100 IM with a time of 56.78. This is Matney's first individual record at Fresno State, breaking Manuela Mendoliccio's record from 2018-19 (57.80).
Fresno State took the top three spots in the 1650 freestyle with Laura Kalmar (16:59.09), Riley Baldwin (17:11.01) and Madison Caserio (17:20.65).
Due to the recent fires happening in Southern California, Fresno State has been hosting Pepperdine for the week prior to the start of the meet. The Waves have been using the Aquatic Center to practice this week and have also spent time with the Bulldogs. Fresno State hosted Pepperdine in a post-meet dinner.
