As wildfires continue to rage across southern California, questions need to be asked of Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass on if they did enough to keep their people safe. Wildfires are no rare occurrence in California and the Santa Ana winds are even more common, so many are wondering why the state was so unprepared for the latest fires. David and Nikki Stein, two former New Yorkers who are currently living in California, spoke with Larry Mendte on Mendte in the Morning about losing their mobile homes, and what led to this catastrophe.
“The budgets were cut…there was not enough equipment, there was not enough water,” Nikki Stein tells Mendte. “Then partially it was really the wind was making the fire unstoppable; the planes couldn’t fly to drop water.”
David Stein talked about the difficulty getting insurance and how this has created a bad situation for many: “Being here in California it’s sort of made it impossible to get some fire insurance so it’s just been a disaster all the way through.”
