Trump is set to take office in less than a week, and now the question is, "How can Texas help the Trump administration secure the southern border?" Turns out, Texas already has, by giving President Trump a great starting point.

Selene Rodriguez with the Texas Public Policy Foundation elaborated on this, saying, "Texas has started to create a blueprint for border defense. And we want to help the federal government in picking back up the torch and doing their job."

She says Texas has already begun the process by building huge sections of border wall, installing a floating barrier in the Rio Grande, and designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, all of which are policies that the Trump team can build off of and mimic on a national level.

That being said, Rodriguez says that Texas will by no means be taking a back seat when it comes to border security under the Trump administration. She said, "We've learned so much about counter-terrorism efforts and about counter-cartel efforts, and we have to help educate our federal partners."

She says that securing the border is going to require collaboration from state, federal, and even local authorities, and that will likely include Texas personnel continuing to hold a place on the front line.
