The Israeli Cabinet was set to vote today on a much-anticipated ceasefire deal with Hamas, but that vote has been delayed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who says Hamas is trying to back out.
Netanyahu's office claims that Hamas is trying to secure some "last-minute concessions" by going back on certain parts of the agreement, but they haven't released any further details at this time.
A ceasefire deal would mean a pause in the fighting that has plagued the region since October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters from Gaza launched a deadly terror attack that killed nearly 1,200 people and resulted in hundreds more being taken hostage.
The ensuing war became a focal point in the 2024 Presidential Race, with President-elect Trump promising that he would end the war before taking office. He has publicly stated that "there will be hell to pay" if all the hostages Hamas took on October 7th aren't released by January 20th, when he takes office.
