Musician's Brain Matter Is Still Making Music Three Years After His Death

In a groundbreaking fusion of art and science, the late experimental composer Alvin Lucier continues to make music posthumously through an installation titled “Revivification.” This project utilizes cerebral organoids, miniature brain-like structures grown from Lucier's white blood cells. These organoids are connected to electrodes that detect their electrical activity, which then triggers mallets to strike brass plates, producing unique musical compositions.

Yes, they created mini versions of his brain to compose forever. The installation, showcased at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, was conceptualized in collaboration with Lucier before his passing in 2021 and developed with researchers from Harvard Medical School.
