#TRENDING 12/09/25: How to Write the "Perfect Holiday Card"

National Christmas Card Day: How to Write the "Perfect Holiday Card"

Today is National Christmas Card Day, which is a helpful last-minute reminder that if you're planning on getting holiday cards out in time this year, you REALLY have to get a move on.

If you're new to this . . . or if it's been a while . . . Time.com has an article out on "How to Write the Perfect Holiday Card." Here are the highlights:

1.  Decide what kind of card you want to send. What do you hope it will accomplish: Do you want to deliver general holiday cheer? Express gratitude? Reconnect with old friends? Fill in extended family on what's been happening?

Ideally, you get the gears rolling on this BEFORE December 9th.

2.  Personalize it. Even if you're sending cards in bulk, try to personalize each one in some small way. You can keep it brief . . . maybe tack on a quick line, like: "We hope your new job is going well!"

3.  Have some fun. You've seen (or given) cards that are generic. So make it more fun by doing something unique, or adding personality. It'll also be more memorable.

4.  Add a surprise. This is an extra touch you could add if you have a more selective list, and aren't sending HUNDREDS out.

5.  Include the date. A lot of people save cards, so make sure you include the date . . . especially if you're including photos, a letter, or a family update.

6.  Decorate the envelope. This is just a little creative flair.

7.  Insert it the correct way. The fold should always point downwards, and as you look at the back of the envelope, the front of the card should be facing you.

8.  Double-check names. The ultimate holiday card faux pas is getting the recipients' names wrong.

9. Finally . . . Don't worry if you don't get it out on time. It's the thought that counts, so don't worry if it ends up being a New Year's card. Don't let it stress you out.
