BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Small farms are seeing an influx of customers, as egg prices soar at the grocery stores.
As bird flu continues to threaten the nation's egg supply, many customers are seeing steeper prices on the shelves at the store. As a result, many are heading to small farms where eggs are traditionally a little more expensive.
Chip-in Farm Owner Paul Couvee said business is booming at the Bedford farm, even though it is outside their typical busy season.
“People still have to eat eggs and I think we’re getting people in because they’re seeing the price go up at the supermarket. We’ve definitely seen an increase in customers [especially] over the last month or so,” said Couvee.
While he admits the influx of customers has been great, just one case of bird flu would probably be “the end” for the farm. Couvee said workers have been extremely careful keeping their birds and prices safe.
“We’re only going to raise our price if something directly affects us,” said Couvee.
