FOXBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Winter skating returned to Patriot Place after a two year break.

This hiatus was caused by stadium construction, allowing for the rink to take a new shape entirely.

The rink has been formed into a winding, figure 8 trail with Christmas trees placed in the middle area to add some extra holiday charm.

Brian Earley, the general manager of Patriot Place, said that they were directly inspired by Canadian forests and the bodies of water it contains.

“It feels like you’re kind of skating out in the woods,” said Earley.” “You see these mostly up in Canada where they actually have rivers that are frozen and you can skate in the woods.”

The rink moved it’s opening to Thursday, November 14th after some unprecedented warm weather at the beginning of the month.

“It feels nice down here, it’s not too cold but it feels good, it feels like skating weather versus the month of May which we had two weeks ago,” added Earley.

Patriot Place has planned to keep the rink open seven days a week through the season, including after Patriots games.

They will be giving away prizes such as concert tickets this weekend to celebrate the reopening.
