In this sick world we live in it's fantastic that this news came out today.
Whether you loved it, hated it, or wished the movie never morphed it's way into existence, the 2017 movie happened. ACCEPT IT! Now, it wasn't Marvel-level-great but also wasn't as bad as the Fantastic Four (all the versions).
It was a movie for the fans (well...most). I think because the TV show is still on Nickelodeon it hurt the movie a bit. Regardless, Hasbro (which bought the entire Power Rangers franchise) said it's moving forward with a follow-up to the 2017 film. Read the full story here
As far as the actors go they have a lot of work coming up
- Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger) has the most work it seems. She was just cast for a Charlies Angel's reboot but we can see her sooner as Jasmine in the 2019 live action version of Aladdin.
- Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger) is filming season 3 of Stranger Things.
- The up-coming movie A-X-L has Becky G (Yellow Ranger) starring in it.
- Ludi Lin (Black Ranger) will be swimming around with a role coming up in Aquaman
- Fan favorite RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger) has a few projects in the works but you he will be at Power Morphicon in California on August 18th.
- Elizabeth Banks (Rita/Green Ranger) is starring and directing the Charlie Angel's reboot.
- Bryan Cranston (Zordon) is sitting back waiting for more Breaking Bad royalty checks to come in. Plus, he can just film his scenes whenever. He was a CGI floating head on a wall!
- Our favorite robot played by Bill Hader (Alpha 5) has his HBO series Barry and currently filming the IT sequel.
Seems like they have their plates full with work BUT the time frame for this movie is around 2020 so by then the actors can make room in their schedules for it....right?! (or am I just living in some fantasy world where things go the way I want them too?) Come on let's face it...this cast was great together. Even their picture proves it!
Even if it's just a small reboot or some actors don't come back. The 2017 film added a lot of story with the Zeo Crystal, Rita stating that "others will come", and how the coins can be passed from one person to another. With 25 years of material I think they can cover any issues that come their way.
But I know what we are thinking. Who gets cast as the legendary Tommy the Green Ranger?!
The cast did say they wanted a female to play the character. Will Hasbro listen or can we expect a love triangle between Jason, Kimberly, and Tommy?
