It's A Super Intense Geek Freak of the Week!

Well this week was super interesting! Lets start off with the story we all heard about.

So...is Henry Cavill in or out as Superman? Here is what we know so far and reasons why he was there

  • Wednesday morning the news broke that he and Warner Brothers were in some kind of talks. More money? Producer title? Or maybe for more DCEU/Worlds of DC ideas?
  • He is rumored to have a cameo in Shazam which comes out next year
  • He is now in more demand for roles and has some new projects on the horizon which would create scheduling conflicts.
  • He has been playing Superman since 2013. Five years later, still no Man of Steel sequel, perhaps ironing out some details.
  • Maybe he was screen testing with a new Batman actor since Batfleck is rumored to be on the way out
  • This is the best publicity stunt DC and Warner Brothers created.

So right now it all seems to be one load of rumors. We haven't had ANYTHING official from Henry Cavill or Warner Brothers regarding this.  It's amazing how this story spiraled out of control.

There were even talks about possible replacements.  Michael B Jordan was one, Nicholas Cage (I know...just, humor me) and more.  But really, the question now becomes this: like we see in the comics. does the world NEED a Superman...in the movies?  We know Superman, like we know Batman.  Characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, Cyborg, Hawkman, and so on have all been unexplored so give them a chance to shine.

Look at Marvel (I know I am going to get crap for this but it's the best analogy I can make right now) but Spider-Man is the face of that company, however in the movies it's Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more.  Back in the day they crossed over WITH Spider-Man.  In the movies Spider-Man crossed over with them.

For the love of Alfred, just give the other characters a freaking chance so we can be excited to see Batman and Superman make appearances later.  I think that's the best result going forward. But, of course, with the Superman talks yesterday...we have more super news to share

Introducing the new Lois Lane!

The Grimm and House actress is going to become the next Daily Planet star! She'll join the big Arrowverse cross over on CW this December.

Will The Next Batman Please Stand Up?

Both Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) are open to play the role as the Caped Crusader in the event Ben Affleck walks away.  Even though, again, this is just rumors it starts the question of who could fill the cowl?  I'd go for Jon Hamm because he play a great and believable Bruce Wayne.  But if it were up to me, bring back Michael Keaton damn it!

Time For Star Wars

Let's go to a galaxy far, far away to get away from this Superman/Batman drama.  Did you see Solo? For those who want to re-live the only scene everyone is talking about here it is.  The return of Darth Maul.

You can add Solo to your Star Wars movie collection now!

Kevin Smith Speaks!

The Pope of our Nerdvana, Kevin Smith himself said on his podcast that he has a GREAT Star Wars Episode 9 theory that he even shared with director JJ Abrams.  Here's what he said:

"We were talking about [Star Wars: TheClone Wars coming back and I said to him, 'I got a theory that that's the way to start introducing Ahsoka slowly into the live-action movies by bringing her back prominently in the cartoon,'" Smith recalled on his Fatman on Batman podcast about discussing the saga with a colleague. "Because now that they don't have Princess Leia stories to tell, they need another strong female character in the universe and Ahsoka's been there for years, much beloved, just isn't in the movies."

He then went on to say...

So I was like, 'I think maybe they're doing that so they can slowly bring her into the movies.' And then Brian [Volk–Weiss] blows my f-ckin' mind by going, 'Maybe that's who Keri Russell's playing?' and then I said, 'What the f-ck, man?! I wanna see your version of Star Wars!' Then I was like, 'No, that can't be it, I think Keri Russell probably plays Rey's mom,' and then he f-ckin' drops the bomb and he goes, 'What if it's the same person?'"

So if Keri Russel has been cast to play Rey's mom...and if this theory is right Rey's mom is Ahsoka?! The chances of this are slim but wouldn't that be a shock to the system. I love how there are more fan-theories than anything.  We still haven't received a title or any other information regarding the film.  December 2019 can't come soon enough!

The Venom Rating

The first movie of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters (that's a mouth full) is set to take screens on October 5th with a PG-13 rating.   Were people surprised by this?  Maybe an R rating would of hurt it? Any movie below an R rating gets a more narrow audience so starting things off with a PG-13 isn't terrible.  Plus, given how freaking Venom looks in a few scenes PG-13 could fit.

Have any nerd news or have inside info to share?  Yah...we could use it. Be cool to say "sources say".  Let me know at Maz@Rock101fm.com.  Until next week...I'm Maz and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
