Well...2018 was fun, wasn't it? Aside from seeing most of our favorite Marvel characters being vaporized by a finger snap and a little sea sick from being under water with Aquaman the Geek Freak of the Week is now well rested and ready for 2019. Movie wise...oh boy, there is a lot. 2019 is jam packed with films. Captain Marvel in March, Shazam in April, Hellboy rises up at the start of April, and then at the end of April we get to see the aftermath of the decimation with Avengers: Endgame. Oh...and don't forget about Godzilla: King of Monsters in May...fingers cross a monster-verse is kicked off from here.
So far, not a lot has surfaced in the last few weeks news wise but here are the main things we are following at Geek Freak headquarters
All Hail The King!
Guess no one can make fun of Aquaman now. The King of Atlantis' movie is currently the DCEU's highest grossing film to date. Before, that title was held Wonder Woman. Seems DC movies have finally found their mojo. The next test is Shazam! which comes out in theaters this April. Let's see if they can hold on to the momentum.
July 4th Is About To Get Strange
Even if New Years Eve was a let down, at least you can say you were excited for this news! Along with Game of Thrones, waiting around for this premier date was the equivalent of sitting by the phone for your doctor to give you call with test results. Kudos to the marketing team with all these teases and no date. Get ready to binge season 3 of Stranger Things starting July 4th. Fireworks are overrated anyways, right?
Batwoman Is Suiting Up!
The timing of this series couldn't be better. Gotham is ending on Fox so by making this series premier in Fall 2019 there won't be TWO shows on different networks about Gotham City. For this series here's what we know so far as it was explained to us in Elseworlds
- Bruce Wayne has been missing for about three years
- Gotham is deserted and cut off. This is similar to the widely popular No Man's Land story line.
- Kate Kane/Batwoman is the only hero left in Gotham cleaning things up. So that means Nightwing, Robin (any of them), Batgirl, Spoiler, Oracle, or even Commissioner Gordon are a no-show.
Does this mean we won't see any of the other members of the Bat-Family in the new series? I doubt it. This is Gotham City and Arkham was crawling with the majority of Batman's rogue gallery...Batwoman is going to need some help taking them on.
Plus! CW and DCTV are planning Crisis on Infinite Earths next December....so we need all the shows we can to tell that story because believe me...it's a long one!
So I am assuming this is the music for the shows intro? It would work I think!
Since we are in the Gotham world.....
The Long Halloween Is Coming!
For anyone who has seen The Dark Knight Trilogy (and let's face it, who hasn't?) you should be excited for this one. The Long Halloween is by far one of the top Batman story lines out there. It's been the blue print for the entire Nolan series.
The story spans a whole year and shows the efforts of Batman, Harvey Dent, and James Gordon who are on the hunt for a serial killer named "Holiday" that is taking out mobsters in Gotham. It was a 13 issue series from 1996-1997 and was written by Jeff Leob (who works on a variety of Marvel properties now) and Tim Sale. The report also states that this adaptation will be made into TWO PARTS (which is great because the story has so many key parts to it you can't take anything out).
I'm setting up a google alert for this so I can be ready when the release date gets announced!
Wait...we're done already?! Yah...it's been a light week. It's a new year so you need to ease into these things. We'll be back next week with more of your nerd news. So until then....I'm Maz and that's your Geek Freak of the Week! (brought to you by no one)
