Happy long weekend everyone! The kick off to summer has arrived with Memorial Day weekend. While you are hanging out around the BBQ having a few burgers, hotdogs, and forgetting that calories count, here are the biggest stories that will make you the most knowledgeable person of the weekend!
The Titan Are Back! The Titans Are Back!
Grab the gear, scouts! The second half of Attack on Titans season three returns! Caught up? Well here's what you need to know.
- We learned the origins of the Titans (well...who/how to control them)
- Christa (whose real name is Historia Reiss) is the true heir to the throne and the current monarch is a fraud
- Eren got his titan transformation powers via a science experiment
- The next part of the season is leading up to a big battle with the Beast Titan leading the pact.
Got all that? Good. I can't wait. Attack on Titan returns at 11:30pm EST this Saturday on Toonami.
speaking of titans.....
The Teen Titans Are Growing
No....Robin and Starfire didn't have a one night stand and now are having a love-child (this is Cartoon Network people) The Teen Titans are growing from five to six with a new member coming to the team! The current members of it's ranks are Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven who have all been together since the beginning. Maybe the rent went up at the Titan Tower and now they need to add another room for rent. In the past we have seen Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, Terra, The Wonder Twins, and even Batgirl all make an appearance on the show to help out. Is it one of them or a new character? cartoon Network is keeping things under wraps for this one so we'll find out Monday.
Sonic Slows Down
I guess we will have to wait until 2020 for the Sonic movie. The new release date for Sonic the Hedgehog is February 14, 2020. You can add a little blue to all the red that day. Paramount saw the backlash over Sonic's look and decided they didn't want to screw the pooch on this one so they are going back and re-designing the character. Is a more classic look coming? They have decades of influences, shouldn't be that hard....right?
Lets Get Dangerous
Screw Aladdin coming out...THIS was the best moment of nostalgia. Freaking Darkwing Duck returned to Ducktales! They did it in a clever way too. Instead of going to the City of St. Canard and seeing the Duck Knight saving the day, in this series Darkwing Duck was a character from an old TV show that Scrooge McDuck's Movie Studio (hey, he's a billionaire after all) was working on a movie reboot. Launchpad, being a huge fan, tries to help the original actor get his old job back but finds out that the guy who is playing him in the movie is a true fan and ends up helping him get the role. Being royally p-oed by this, the original actor goes crazy and eventually turns into the villainous Nega-Duck! (You have no idea how loud I screamed with joy during this episode)
Throughout the entire 22 mins you see references to the original series...from a Megavolt cameo to the Thunder Quack! Is a spin-off series coming? Not likely. The original show in the 90's lasted just over one season while DuckTales lasted four and had a movie. I can only guess that we will see more Darkwing Duck focused episodes in the near future. Hey...I'll be watching!
Stranger Summers Are Here
I guess you can say the moms are very thrilled that summer has arrived in Hawkins, Indiana. In this new clip it seems hanging out by the pool is the place to be to catch some sun, chat with friends, and check out Billy who is working as a life guard. I didn't realize the towns mascot was a cougar.
Big things about this clip is the sight of the "new" coke. Remember that flop? This takes place in the summer of 1985 and at that time, Coca-Cola had changed the flavor of America's favorite soda. In a bizarre but interesting twist, Netflix and Coca-Cola have teamed up to re-introduce the old "new" coke flavor in stores in time for the premier of season three.
Don't forget to listen to the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast. Latest issue is all about Game of Thrones...the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all. Give it a listen!
Have a safe and great Memorial Day weekend. Until next week...I'm Maz and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
