It's A Spectacular Day To Read The Geek Freak of the Week!

Fellow nerds, dorks, and geeks....there is peace in our time. Spider-Man is back home in the MCU!

Excited? You can be and we should be. What was thought to be a dead deal with no compromise in site has finally been resolved...for now. The deal only includes Marvel Studios/Disney and Sony working on a third film in this franchise. No word on the future of Spider-Man in other MCU films so we might be seeing the news we got back in August come up again after 2021. For now...get excited because after leaving us with a cliff-hanger in Far From Home we now have at least one movie to see how it will effect our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Expect this movie to arrive in theaters July 16, 2021. I'm calling it now Spider-Man: Staying Home

Gotham Grows

They have Batman/Bruce Wayne cast...time for the villains! Jonah Hill is reportedly in talks to take on a role in the next Batman film starring Robert Pattinson. Now, Batman's rogue's gallery is pretty large, so which one will he be taking on? At first, rumors suggested he was up for the part of Penguin but that seems to be debunked. New rumors are pointing towards The Riddler. Yes, he's a c-lister villain and not that menacing. However, I have been saying for years that they should turn the character into a computer hacker. If they can reinvent Bane from Batman & Robin then they can certainly re-imagine the Riddler for this movie.

Also in talks for a role is Jeffery Wright (Boardwalk Empire, Westworld) he is rumored to be finalizing a deal to become the next Commissioner Gordon. He has the demeanor and the look as an experienced and righteous cop. Just what Gotham needs!

The Batman comes out in 2021.

No Crisis For Lex

Well, at least for Michael Rosenbaum who portrayed a Lex Luthor in the series Smallville. He will not be joining some of his former co-stars or the current members of the Arrow-verse for the big Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover this December. Why? Read the quote from his tweet:

Are you disappointed? I am. Here's why. Not only did Rosenbaum portray Lex but he also voiced Wally West/The Flash in the Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and Superman: The Animated Series from back in the day. He returned to voice the scarlet speedster in the DC Animated Movie Justice League: Doom. They could have made him both Lex AND a live action version of The Flash like they are going to use Kevin Conroy (who voiced Batman) in this crossover. Missed opportunity I think.

The Final Arrow Is Being Shot

Okay...here we go. After eight years we are heading into the final season of Arrow. In this trailer for Sacrifice, Oliver knows he's doomed in the upcoming crisis. That must sting. Aside from that, a lot of returning faces! We see Thea return (finally), Tommy, and Oliver looks overwhelmed...by the site of his mother?! It's probably a dream or something The Monitor is doing. The final season of Arrow premiers Tuesday, October 15th on the CW, so we have a few weeks left to ponder!

When Worlds Collide

Jurassic World 3 doesn't have a title or plot yet, but at this point, who really cares? Returning for the sixth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise is Sam Neill as Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. The last time these three were together was back when the original Jurassic Park made it's way into theaters back in 1993. With their return, this might give a clue to where the next movie is going because right now, no one knows a thing!

Jurassic World 3 (whatever it will be called) will be in theaters June 11, 2021

Not Feeling The Force

You know the phrase "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" that's exactly what George Lucas had in his mind towards Disney after he saw The Force Awakens. It was a box office hit, however, many critics and fans said that the movie was just a re-do of the original Star Wars: A New Hope. George Lucas is in that boat guiding the ship.

How did this all get out there? Force Awakens was back in 2015. It's all in the new book from Disney CEO Bob Iger The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years As CEO Of The Walt Disney Company

The book describes how disappointed the Star Wars creator was with the movie giant and his former company LucasFilm for not using his ideas that he shared with them on how to go about with a sequel trilogy to the franchise.

The thing with George Lucas, he's not about the story of the movie, he's more invested in the visuals. Back when the prequel trilogy came out he was all about how each film was going to foreshadow how the Republic became the Empire. You see that in the ships, the suits, and the characters in some cases (ie..General Grievous). The plot was never his main focus as he tried to embrace new technology to further "wow" the audience.

He did praise the The Last Jedi when it came out. Most likely because it wasn't a re-do of Empire Strikes Back. Will he say the same for the final film of the saga The Rise of Skywalker? We will have to wait until December for that.

Speaking of Star Wars

The man, the myth, and the master-mind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now taking on one of the most iconic franchises in movie history. Kevin Feige is going to the galaxy far, far, away!

Shocked by this move? Not really...Kevin Feige is a huge fan of the franchise. Phase two of the MCU paid homage to Star Wars. Just like in Empire Strikes Back some characters lost a limb while in battle.

  • Agent Coulson from Agents of SHIELD
  • Thor in Thor: The Dark World
  • Groot & Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Ulysses Kraue from Black Panther in Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Bucky - Captain America: Winter Solider & Captain America: Civil War
  • Darron Cross/Yellow Jacket in Ant-Man
  • Aldrich Killian from Iron Man 3. Tony cuts it right off

We also got a reference in Civil War. Remember the airport battle?

So it seems A) Empire is Kevin Feige's favorite film and B) it seems he was asking Disney all along he wanted to be involved with Star Wars. After the news was released, some fans commented saying that if he is away working on Star Wars then Phase Four of the MCU will suffer. At this point he probably has clear cut instructions how things will be going forward and I'm sure he will get final say before anything is released.

This guy has the dream job, doesn't he?

That was a lot of nerd news this week...the future looks bright though, so buckle up. Don't forget to listen to the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast on your smartphone, tablet, or smart speaker! Alexa, Sonos, and Google Home love the geek gossip!
