This week was PACKED. Death Star size packed!
The big CW crossover took place, trailers were dropped, and release dates are set for some long awaited films. Oh, and The Rise of Skywalker is one week out. I hope you have a lot of vacation time left because this issue is long and you'll be waiting in line to see the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. Let's geek out.
Post Crisis Chat
Ready? This week showed us the first 3 parts of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Let's dive right in! Okay first...the cameos:
- Tom Welling returns as Clark Kent from Smallville and is on Earth-167 chopping wood at the Kent Farm
- Kevin Conroy makes his live action debut as Bruce Wayne (complete with Kingdom Come walking suit) on Earth-99
- Brandon Routh returns as Clark Kent/Superman from the Superman Returns movie and is running the Daily Planet on Earth-96
- Robert Ruhl returns as reporter Alexander Knox from 1989 Batman Movie on Earth-89
- Burt Ward aka Robin from the 1966 Batman series is seen walking Ace the Bat-Hound on Earth-66
- Tom Ellis makes a surprise cameo as Lucifer from the Fox/Netflix series. He respectfully is on Earth-666.
- The Titans from DCUniverse's Titans are seen real quick on Earth-9
- Ashley Scott reprises her role as Huntress on Earth 203 from the 2002 WB series Birds of Prey.
Some were happy with the cameos, others...not so much. According to the reactions on twitter, the happiest is when Tom Ellis appeared as Lucifer in The Flash Hour/Part 3 this past Tuesday night. That was an awesome twist and kept under wraps very VERY well. You can see that clip here.
Also, the earth number assignments were cleverly placed. For example: Alexander Knox, who is a reporter in the Batman film directed by Tim Burton is seen reading a newspaper in Gotham City and you can hear the original Batman movie theme playing. That movie came out in 1989. Hence, Earth-89. CW, you get an A+ for that!
Now let's talk about some of the other moments.
First: It seems fans were mad with Tom Welling's return as Clark Kent in this one. As Lex Luthor from Earth-38 (played by Jon Cryer) he showed up to kill the man of steel. After exposing him to Kryptonite, Clark takes the green piece of death and throws it into a field. It seems this version of Clark Kent decided to give up his powers in order to have a normal life with Lois and his two daughters. This is taken directly from the 1980 movie Superman II. The reason fans were upset hat after watching 10 seasons and 207 episodes of Smallville they wanted to see Tom Welling suit up and fly but this is what they got instead. Is it a waste or disrespect to the character? Remember, this is Crisis on Infinite Earths. Maybe on another earth this version of Clark didn't give them up. So maybe we will see him suit up again.
Second: Kevin Conroy as future Bruce Wayne. When it was announced that the voice behind Bruce Wayne/Batman from the animated series was making his live action debut as the character...the internet broke for a moment. This version of Bruce was to appear older and broken plus be wearing the exoskeleton suit from the Kingdom Come story line. When Supergirl and Batwoman arrive to Earth-99 to recruit him for the upcoming fight it is revealed this version of the Dark Knight has killed that earths Superman and started taking out other members of his rogues gallery. Of course, Batman doesn't kill. It's his code. The reason this version existed was to show Kate/Batwoman that she can not cross the line when it comes to battling her sister Alice. Even though her sister is a monster and has killed dozens of people (including her step-mother) Kate has to stick to her code that Bruce set up or else she will go down a dark path. Of course Kate then "accidentally" pushes Bruce into some old Batcave equipment and he gets electrocuted...so there's that. Kevin Conroy was used for the Batwoman series and not for Crisis so it is a disappointment in sorts. Also, no Batman Beyond reference at all. Damn it. Maybe next year!
Despite the disappointment from some and the excitement of others we still have two more parts on the horizon! The Arrow and Legends hour of the crossover will arrive Tuesday January 14th at 8 on the CW.
Look For That Number Again
Taking a break from DC news (for now, there's more) but this week we were shown the next chapter is the Ghostbusters universe! Seems this one is moving far FAR away from the reboot that came out in 2016. Also, is it taking a more serious and horror tone? This series is about ghosts after all. Watch this tone of the trailer be a decoy and the movie is really a comedy.
Alright, I'm not kidding right now. I don't know who gave DC and Warner Brothers the kick in the butt they needed but DC is dominating with announcements and the future of their movies. Buckle up...here we go!
1984 Called
First off...WONDER WOMAAAAAAN. With Steve Trevor back. Clone? Hallucination? Shape-shifter? I have no idea how he's alive but xset that aside for a moment. We get a nice look at our favorite amazon princess in her golden eagle armor from the comics! She's going to be fighting Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig so she will need all the help she can get.
Coming In Fast!
Well...not really. After a while of waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and some more waiting the Flash solo movie starring Ezra Miller is jumping out of the speed-force on July 1, 2022. One of the many reasons this movie has been shelves is due to Ezra Miller's schedule with the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Now it seems they can pull him away from practicing magic to messing up the timeline. Oh wait, that's the CW version. Damn it Barry! I'm already getting the Flash's confused. We need another Crisis on Infinite Earths over here to help!
Say His Name!
Next to Wonder Woman, Shazam was a pretty good movie and another win for DC plus a nice clean up for their extended universe. So far no title or what the next movie will be about by expect it in theaters on April 1, 2022. Yes, that's April Fools Day. I can't think of a better day to put it on.
I just realized...between this post and 2022 there are a ton of superhero and comic book movies coming out. Here's the break down between Marvel & DC. I'm sure I missed one or two.
