Now Presenting, The Geek Freak of the Week!

Hello night nerds! It's Maz, your friendly neighborhood traffic reporter back for another week to share with you the latest in geek gossip and nerd news. It's a big weekend for superhero and comic book fans. First off Birds of Prey (and that long list of words with Harley Quinn) is now in theaters! Go support the gals of Gotham!

Second...It's Oscar time and as you know, Joker is nominated for 11 awards! Will it sweep? Nah. I know, I am so supportive. I can say this, it WILL and should take home the award for Best Actor. Joaquin Phoenix has won the Golden Globe, the SAG Statue, and the BAFTA Award for his portrayal of the clown prince of crime. It's a sure thing he'll score best actor this Sunday. The Joker's chances of winning Best Picture it's kind of a long shot. What can grab that prize will either be 1917 or Parasite.

Free...Free Free...Free Free Free. Free.

I know, it's February but Free Comic Book Day is only a few months out. Saturday May 2, 2020 comic book stores around the country (and globe) will have select titles from DC, Marvel, and even the smaller companies on stands FOR FREE! For a look at what to expect you can check out FreeComicBookDays YouTube video below.

Notice what DC had? Yeah, it said TOP SECRET. The big companies do that. A few days ago they ripped the seal on that top secret envelope and revealed what the titles will be on that Saturday this May.

  • Generation Zero, DC's next big story arc
  • Reprint of "A Brave New World" from Wonder Woman #750
  • Batman: Overdrive: a story about a teenage Bruce Wayne.

Free Comic Book Day happens the first Saturday of every May every year. It's a great way to get out there and support your local comic book shop (or discover one near one). For that list, click HERE so you know where to go in a few months.

Post-Crisis New Look

Now that we are in the new era of the Arrowverse (is it still called that?) we were shown some new things. On Tuesday, both The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow surprised viewers with something unexpected. New intros! Take a look.

Here's the one for Legends of Tomorrow

A nice fresh coat of paint to change things up. Not bad. Perhaps the one for Legends will change more often since that show changes their tone every episode. Their variations will be fun to watch if that is what they decide to do with it. So now, will these intros be kept going forward and will the other heroes of Earth-Prime like Batwoman, Supergirl, and Black Lightning get the same love? Guess we have to stay tuned.

Phase 4 Is A Go!

These Disney+ series are part of the MCU's Phase 4, right? Anyway....2020 is filled with movies but if you just want to sit at home, here are some of new Marvel shows coming to Disney's streaming service in a few months.

That does it for this weeks geek gossip and nerd news.

Go see Birds of Prey and get ready for the Joker love at the Oscars this Sunday. It starts at 8pm on ABC.

A new BEAST WARS episode of the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast will be out next week. Until then, I'm Maz and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
