Hello fellow geeks, nerds, and dorks. A lot to dive into. First and foremost... Sonic, our favorite blue hedgehog's movie is now in theaters. After all the backlash the movie received at first regarding how he looked compared to the video games, TV series, and other visuals, along with the delay to re-animate him, it's time to go support the film. This is what fans wanted, so let's show that we care! Cool?
Okay, let's geek out with this!
On Thursday night, Matt Reeves (Director of The Batman) shared this!
Hello new Bat Suit! First thoughts:
- The Bat emblem looks more like a weapon that Batman can use. Hey, that's never been done in the movies before!
- The suit is a tad more rugged.
- It looks like something out of the popular Arkham games and some elements from the very first bat suit that we saw back in Detective Comics #27 back in 1939.
- Does the red throw you off? Well, a fan filtered it out. Check it out here!
- Does the music sound similar to the 1989 Batman theme song? If so....AWESOME!
Remember, this is the first look at it and, Matt Reeves said it was test footage. Maybe he and Warner Brothers are trying to see how people react to get a better idea of what to put on screen. Maybe we will get a few bat suits in the 2021 movie. Just like Iron Man, Batman has a few laying around for different occasions. He fighting a cat and a penguin in this next film.
And The Oscar Goes To....
The Joker and the sounds in his head! Both Joaquin Phoenix and Hildur Guonadottir won big for their roles in Joker. Obviously Joaquin won for playing the clown prince himself and Hildur won as she composed the music for the film. Both were terrific in their parts and both were huge wins for the comic book movie. Watch their acceptance speeches below.
Sony Sets Its Eyes for 2021
Nothing new here, just an untitled Marvel film date being announced. However, this was Sony who did it and NOT Marvel Studios or Disney. Get the tin foil hats! Now we start to ask some questions.....
- So what does Sony have in store here?
- The next Spider-Man film? Maybe a Venom/Spider-Man team up?
- Maybe it's the solo Kraven the Hunter movie?
The release date is set for October 8, 2021. If we do some digging through history, this is what we get.
The first Venom film came out October 3, 2018 and Venom 2 is set for October 2 later this year. So a crossover of Venom vs Spider-Man might not be out of the question. Also, Sony and Marvel Studios have a Spider-Man MCU movie coming out July of 2021. This just makes a team up with Venom all the more reason to believe October 8 is that film. Sony owns the movie rights to Venom and will want to make a film with the popular wall-crawler on their terms. Maybe it'll be something else? My money is on the theory above.
The Title Says It All
First off: the movie title isn;t changing this is strictly for theater tickets and local marketing reasons. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will now be known as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.
Let's face it, it's just easier to see and say. Should this have been the name when they added her into the film? YES! But, they were looking for do something cute with the title I guess. It doesn't change the film at all, so let's just move on.
Hopper Is Back!
Yeah, yeah....SPOILERS! Take a look at a surprise teaser for season 4 of Stranger Things that was released Friday morning
Yup! Hopper is back! You didn't really think he was dead, did you?
This was a nice surprise for Valentine's Day. You could use this as a topic on a dinner date or if you're single and you've been meaning to ask out a certain someone and they like this series it's the best ice breaker to dive right into a conversation and then continue on a date later. Aren't I best wing man?
After the reveal there has been a mix of good and bad. The reason for the bad: why show us in a promo that Hopper is alive? Some wish it be a surprise in the season OR he would stay dead because that's what happens in real life. People die and we need to move on or show how a the characters deals with death.
Here's my take. I am not shocked by this move. This happens in comic books all the time. Someone dies, they come back. They die again, they come back. It's been a repetitive cycle for decades. Marvel does it, DC definitely does it, and the movies do it all the time. A few examples:
- Justice League with Superman's resurrection
- Avengers: Infinity War with Red Skull being on the planet Volmir
- Avengers: Endgame with those who were snapped out of existence...they all came back!
There are plenty of others examples I could use but with that example in mind does seeing Hopper alive working on a railroad in Russia surprise you now? Maybe he's not the same guy? Maybe he's a secret communist agent now. Who knows! Wait.....HOLY CRAP! are Stranger Things and Black Widow connected?! Bare with me.....
- Hopper is alive in Russia
- Black Widow movie is coming out...and she goes back to get her old team, one is the Red Guardian
- Red Guardian is Russian
- David Harbour plays both Hopper AND Red Guardian.
- In both series they were told they were "fat"
- if Hopper is indeed brainwashed.....then Hopper could think he is the Red Guardian!
- STRANGER THINGS TAKES PLACE IN THE MCU!!
- *thud*
Wow...that took a turn. Maybe this can be the thing that reunites Netflix and Disney! I know it's not real but hey, let's have some fun with it!
Stranger Things season 4 has no official release date yet but is said to be out sometime in 2020.
