Summon The Study Group! The Geek Freak of the Week Is Here

Before we start off with the Geek Freak for this week lets take a look at a message from Stan Lee that was inked in 1968.

It's Time To Study

It took a few years but the world is now discovering the fan favorite cult-hit TV series Community. If you haven't watched this series at least check out the paintball episodes. Those made it a classic! Also, there is a Marvel connection. The Russo Brothers (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Civil War, and both Avengers Infinity War and Endgame directors) served as executive producers and directed many episodes for this series. In fact, in many of their movies for the MCU you see actors from this series appear in cameos. For that list, go here

The majority of the cast reunited not so long ago and performed the script of one of the episodes in season 5 episode 4 called "The Cooperative Polygraph". To add the icing on the cake, they somehow recruited the Mandalorian himself to step in as one of the characters for that episode. A win win. Go Greendale!

Moving Along

Now that many states are starting to open up businesses Disney is going to make sure its park visitors obey the rules. To do that, the Mouse has called in the Storm Troopers from a galaxy far far away to make sure you and all the other visitors are safe. If you ever thought you had some sort of Jedi mind trick powers, go down there and test it!

Same Cowl New Character

So, this is...well, interesting. As we all know, Ruby Rose is hanging up the cowl as Batwoman after one season. Instead of recasting Ruby Rose as the lead the CW has decided to just go ahead and put a whole new character in the role to take up the cowl. That's um, odd. Okay, why? You can catch all that in a new episode of the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast coming out!

Here Comes The X-Men?

At 2019 Comic Con many announcements were made regarding phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige did state at the very end of the panel that they were working on getting the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and more of the Fox-Marvel characters into their future plans. To be clear, this is not the Marvel Studios official plans but this article demonstrates how the studio is not afraid to look into the comics for its origins rather than trying to conceive one that fits into what is current in the movies. According to Avengers: Age of Ultron the infinity stones gave Wanda and Piertro Maximoff their abilities. Who is to say that others didn't get their powers that way as well?

The Rating Is In

The long awaited Godzilla vs Kong movie is still scheduled to arrive in theaters this November. Instead of receiving a teaser, this past week the news of the movies official MPAA rating was revealed. No shock here, PG-13 "for intense sequences of creature violence/destruction and brief language". To compare, here were the ratings for the last few films in the monster-verse.

  • Kong: Skull Island: PG-13
  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters: PG-13

This news is somewhat disappointing. It sounded like Warner Brothers was hoping for a PG rating this time in hopes of getting a wider audience to see this show down once theaters reopen.

Don't forget to check out the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast! Listen on the iHeart Radio app or which ever smart speaker obeys your command.

Until next week. I'm Maz and that's the Geek Freak of the Week!
