There's some serious drama going down in the small town of Armstrong, Iowa - population 890 - where the mayor, the police chief, and two other city officials are accused of embezzling money from the town.
The scam appears to involve misappropriation of over $100,000 collected from utility bills that went out in "improper" payments. But it doesn't stop there. In addition to charges of fraud, embezzlement, and falsifying documents, there are criminal charges of theft and assault with a dangerous weapon - allegedly over "the deployment of a Taser against a civilian in exchange for cash", according to the New York Times.
The mayor, police chief, and a current and former city clerk were all arrested over the weekend. Ever had any small-town drama where you live? Would this case make a good movie?
