Woman Who Missed Flight Called In Fake Bomb Threat--To Get Her Luggage Back

A Chicago woman who missed her flight out of Fort Lauderdale after checking in her bags came up with a devious plan to get her luggage back: She told airline employees one of her suitcases contained a bomb.

Instead of getting the 49-year-old woman's luggage back, the stunt -- which occurred Monday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport -- instead earned the unidentified traveler a trip to the county jail, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

She's facing one count of falsely reporting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction, sheriff's officials say. While her plan may have backfired, the woman did succeed in stopping the flight from leaving.

Airport officials had the plane turn around, after which they evacuated the passengers and performed an extensive search of the aircraft, sheriff's investigators say. No bomb was found. Have you ever been on a flight that was delayed by one passenger?
