Tesla Patrol Car's Battery Dies During High Speed Chase

A California police officer in pursuit of a fleeing suspect was forced to call off the chase when his Tesla patrol car's battery ran out of power. The incident occurred in Fremont after an officer identified a car's license plate number as being connected to a crime that had been committed in Santa Clara, police say. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect gunned it and led the officer on a high-speed chase, a spokeswoman says. In a recording of the officer's conversation with a dispatcher, he can be heard saying, "Just slowed down to six miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec." Moments later, his lifeless car came to a stop -- allowing the suspect to make good his escape. Each of the Fremont Police Department's Teslas are supposed to be charged at the end of every shift, rep Geneva Bosques admits. Police officials are "looking into" why the patrol car in question wasn't, Bosques says. What are some of the advantages gas-powered cars have over electric-powered vehicles? How long will it take for all gasoline-powered vehicles to be removed from the roads?
