Prison Officials Discover Drones Delivering Drugs and Weapons to Inmates

Officials at a Canadian prison have been baffled over how inmates have been sneaking contraband into the facility. And on Tuesday, they finally got their answer. After receiving a call at 4 a.m. about suspicious activity near Collins Bay Institution in Kingston, Ontario, authorities went out to investigate -- and found a low-flying drone approaching the prison. They managed to bring it down and found that it was loaded with marijuana, cellphones, weapons and tobacco, according to a Kingston Police Service report. After further investigation, they found another drone that had already cleared the prison wall. It had carried in more of the same, the report indicates. For some reason, the guys who were controlling the drones were still close by. Investigators caught them with the remote controllers still in their hands, police say. They were arrested and charged with criminal mischief. Does criminal mischief sound like a light charge for sneaking drugs and weapons into a prison? Could they even be accused of putting the prisoners at risk of contracting the coronavirus?
