A Colorado firefighter is setting a state record. He grew the first one-ton pumpkin, coming in at almost 21-hundred pounds. Brad Bledsoe says that was his goal and now he hopes to beat it with another weigh-off on Saturday. He's been growing giant pumpkins for four years now. He worked at a nursery before serving as a medic with Aurora Fire Rescue.
- Name: The pumpkin was named Winifred Sanderson after the character in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus.
- Location: The pumpkin was grown on Bledsoe's property in Fort Collins.
- Growing process: Bledsoe carefully managed the growing process, including measuring nutrients in the soil, researching the genetics of the seeds, and watering the plant daily.
