They were a part of the west coast thrash metal explosion of the 80’s, persevered through decades of changes in rock, and now after 40 years Megadeth is now #1!
The band hit No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with their new self-titled, final album, after placing 23 albums on the charts throughout their career, with 1992’s Countdown to Extinction, being the highest on the chart at No. 2.
The new album was released a day after the documentary Megadeth: Behind the Mask was released in movie theaters, and the band is set to kick off their farewell tour on Feb. 15 in Victoria, British Columbia.
Since, Dave Mustaine’s dismissal from Metallica on the eve of recording their iconic first album “Kill Em All”, the guitarist has been on a mission to surpass his former band with the creation of Megadeth, which became the second most identifiable group of the Thrash Metal scene. The only constant in the band throughout all of their history is Mustaine himself, and now at the end of their run he finally achieves the one last milestone that’s eluded them for all these years.
Although, no one can question that Metallica is the biggest selling metal band of all time, Dave Mustaine is as iconic a figure in metal as they are, whose riffs truly make him the Godfather of thrash.
