There are bad drivers on the road no matter where you are, but in some places, it’s riskier to get behind the wheel than in others. So where are the worst drivers in the country? A new study from Forbes Advisor reveals the cities where drivers are doing more dangerous things that threaten public safety.

  • To find out which cities have the worst drivers, Forbes Advisor compared the 50 most populated U.S. cities across these key metrics - number of fatal car accidents per 100-thousand residents, number of fatal accidents involving a drunk driver, those involving a distracted driver, those involving speeding and the number of people killed in fatal crashes.
  • Based on all that, Albuquerque, New Mexico tops the list as the most dangerous city in the country to drive in.
  • It has the highest number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver, is third highest for the total number of fatal car accidents and has the third highest number of people killed in fatal crashes.
  • Texas is home to three of the top 15 cities with the worst drivers - Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio.
