Lend a Helping Can raises money for 12 New England charitable agencies to feed the Needy and Homeless.

 

Rays Take Opener From Nationals

The Tampa Bay Rays (41-41) defeated the Washington Nationals (38-43) 3-1 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. The Rays are once again at the .500 mark and have a chance to win the series against Washington on Saturday.

Jose Siri hit two home runs to lead the way, hitting solo shots in the second and sixth. Isaac Paredes added the other RBI for the Rays, hitting a RBI single in the third inning.

Yandy Diaz set a new franchise record with a single in the third inning, now getting hits in 20 straight games to pass Jason Bartlett to establish a new franchise record for a hitting streak.

Zach Eflin (4-5, 3.92) was brilliant for the Rays, pitching six shutout innings in which he allowed four hits while striking out six and walking one in the winning effort. Pete Fairbanks worked the ninth inning for his 13th save.

The Rays now look to take the series from the Nationals on Saturday afternoon. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball
