Not All Stranded Dolphins Were Saved In Wellfleet

The International Fund for Animal Welfare worked through the weekend after 125 Atlantic white-sided dolphins became stranded on the mud flats in Wellfleet on Friday.

The organization's mammal rescue team and trained volunteers provided supportive care for the dolphins and helped to keep them comfortable until the incoming tide.

Most of the dolphins were able to return to deeper water by Sunday morning.

Rescuers say 13 stranded dolphins died naturally and one had to be euthanized.

The IFAW says this was one of the largest single mass stranding events on Cape Cod.
