1 Sentencing In Trump's Criminal Hush Money Case Postponed To Sept. 18th

Sentencing for former President Donald Trump has been postponed. After the Manhattan district attorney’s office said yesterday that it wouldn’t oppose Trump’s request to argue that his hush money conviction should be thrown out after Monday’s Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, Judge Juan Merchan’s office granted a postponement. Trump is now scheduled to be sentenced on September 18th, according to a letter sent to the parties in the case. Judge Merchan has given the Trump team until next Wednesday to submit official paperwork to have his conviction dismissed and set a deadline for the DA’s office of July 24th to respond. Merchan plans to rule on Trump’s request on September 6th. The basis for Trump’s request is part of the Supreme Court ruling that says that “Testimony or private records of the President or his advisers probing such conduct may not be admitted as evidence at trial.”

2 First Democratic Congressperson Calls For Biden To Withdraw From Race

Instead of cooling off, the conversation about President Joe Biden’s ability to serve another term as president is heating up. Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas called for Biden to drop out of the race for president yesterday, making him the first sitting Democratic congressperson to publicly make the suggestion. In a statement, Doggett said, “President Biden saved our democracy by delivering us from Trump in 2020. He must not deliver us to Trump in 2024.” While no other members of Congress have called for Biden to withdraw, some are starting to change from a stance of unwavering support for the President after last week’s debate. Rep. Nancy Pelosi said on “NBC News” yesterday that whether or not Biden had a “bad night” or if it were a “condition” was a “legitimate question.” Democratic congressional candidate Adam Frisch said yesterday “We deserve better. President Biden should do what’s best for the country and withdraw from the race.” Rep. Jared Golden of Maine published an opinion piece in the “Bangor Daily News” saying in part: “While I don’t plan to vote for him, Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that.”

3 Hurricane Beryl Impacting Jamaica Today

Hurricane Beryl continues its rampage across the Caribbean. The record storm has killed at least six people this week and is expected to hit Jamaica or pass close to it today. Last night, Beryl was still a Category 4 storm and is expected to be a major hurricane as it impacts Jamaica today. As of last night, the forecast path for the storm would take it over the Yucatan Peninsula and then onward to a final landfall on the Mexican coast just south of Brownsville, Texas on Sunday. The path could still change, and emergency management agencies at least as far east as Mississippi were warning residents yesterday to keep an eye on the storm.
