Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the Yucatan Peninsula early this morning as a Category 2 storm. Beryl maintains a west-northwesterly track and is expected to enter the Southwest Gulf of Mexico this evening then move northwestward. This general motion should continue until the storm makes landfall on the western Gulf coast. While the guidance has come into better agreement, there is a spread in the guidance as landfall points extend from northeastern Mexico to the Middle Texas coast. Therefore, all of South Texas should be preparing for a hurricane. Beryl is expected to make landfall late Sunday night or early Monday morning somewhere near or along the Coastal Bend as a Category 1 Hurricane, though plan for a Category 2. Currently, there is a 20-35% chance of tropical storm force winds within the next 5 days with the earliest reasonable arrival time along the Middle Texas Coast Sunday morning and most likely being Sunday night.

Regardless of the exact track, dangerous rip currents and tidal runup along the coast will continue through the Holiday Weekend. Storm Surge and seas will begin to increase starting later this weekend. This will make for dangerous swimming conditions! Any outer rainbands may be capable of producing wind gusts at, or above tropical storm force and a few isolated tornadoes will be possible, particularly from Sunday through Monday. Due to the potential for heavy rainfall and training of showers/storms, there is at least a 15% chance of flash flooding across the Coastal Bend, Coastal Plains, and Victoria Crossroads.
