Trader Joes is recalling their Mango Tangerine Scented Candle, sold nationwide including Nebraska, due to an "unexpected burn pattern." The company revealed information about the recall in a press release, stating that "the candle flame can spread from the wick to the wax causing a larger than expected flame, posing a safety risk."

KTLA noted that there are a total of 21 house fires in the U.S. each year that occur as a result of burning candles. In fact, fire departments across America respond to "7,610 candle-related fires in the U.S., which are responsible for 81 deaths and, on average, $278 million worth of property damage," per year.

Officials released a variety of safety tips to prevent house fires sparked by candle use including, using a flashlight to illuminate darkness as an alternative, extinguishing the candle flame when you are not home or asleep, and placing a dinner plate under the candle to assure that it is not resting atop anything that might catch on fire.

Trader Joes is urging customers who have purchased this candle to avoid use and either return it to their store for a full refund, or discard it. Customers with questions regarding the recalled product, with SKU# 56879, can call Trader Joe's Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817.
