There was something off when it came to the reporting of Aaron Pelczar, of the Cody Enterprise, in Wyoming. The problem was first noticed when quotes attributed to “the state’s governor and a local prosecutor” seemed “slightly off.” Competing reporter CJ Baker, of the Powell Tribune, had dead-to-rights proof there was a reporting problem, however, when a story about the 2024 Cody Stampede Parade was published…and it was clear to Baker that his competitor was using artificial intelligence to write his stories…and not checking to see if quotes were accurate, or if “facts” were even true. When called on it, Pelczar admitted to the use of AI for his stories and resigned from The Enterprise…which has since apologized and promised to be more thorough, ensuring it that it’ll “never happen again.”
