Florida Economist Hopes Fed Rate Cut Isn't Too Aggressive

The Federal Reserve is cutting interest rates by half-a-point. University of Central Florida economist Sean Snaith says it's a little too aggressive for his tastes.

"I think a half point is an aggressive start to this cycle of easing monetary policy," Snaith said, "especially when we haven't achieved the inflation target yet."

Dr. Snaith says the move suggests the Central Bank is more concerned about a recession than it is inflation taking off again.

"This movement by the Fed obviously seems to suggest the committee thinks that the recession risks are higher perhaps than the risks of inflation reigniting but I think we'll have to wait and see."

Snaith says we don't want to take a ride on the 'inflation-interest rate roller coaster.'

It's the first interest rate cut in more than four years.
