(Des Moines, IA) -- There's new information about a woman's death last night in Des Moines. Police say the victim has been identified as 52-year-old Suzette Gums of Des Moines.

Police were called to a medical emergency in the 1500 block of Capitol Avenue, September 18th, at 5:25 p.m.

First responders found Suzette Gums in cardiac arrest. Des Moines Fire Department medics provided care and took to her a local hospital, but Gums did not survive.

Investigators say evidence, including a cut to her leg that caused significant blood loss at the scene, indicated suspicious circumstances.

Officers detained 58-year-old Walter King Bickham at the scene. Bickham is now charged with 2nd degree murder.

It's the 12th homicide in Des Moines this year.
